Welcome, Bobcat Class of 2015!
It is with great pride that I welcome you to an institution that is like no other in the country, your new home, Texas State University. I would like to be the first to tell you without hesitation, congratulations on making the best decision of your life.
Lyndon B. Johnson, our most distinguished alumni said, “The noblest search is the search for excellence.” Your search here will be a journey that will impact the rest of your life, and it begins now. While attending this university you will be acquiring the knowledge and skills that are vital to both your growth and success as a professional and as a person.
When it comes to academics, you can rest assured that you are attending one of the top institutions in the nation. We are privileged to have faculty and staff that genuinely care about our success and provide an intimate surrounding for academic success.
If you are anything like I was as a freshman, I can bet that you are feeling nervous or anxious to be taking the next big step in your life. However, those concerns for me were quickly put to rest. Know that this step will provide you with means necessary to achieve any aspirations or goals you may have. Texas State offers many resources, and we encourage all of our freshmen to make the most of them. By making the most of the academics Texas State offers, you will see that through dedication and hard work, academic success will come naturally.
I want to challenge you to not only focus on academic excellence, but to also learn about the value of sharing experiences and building lifelong friendships. I ask that while you are here, you take the time to get involved and learn about our pride and traditions so you can truly know what it means to be a Texas State Bobcat. I want you to seize every opportunity that is available for you, and the only way to do that is to get involved. Whether it be simply going to the athletic events; becoming president of an organization; or by simply getting involved in any of the hundreds of organizations that we have, I can promise you that your time here will be worthwhile.
The Associated Student Government (ASG) acts as the voice for every Bobcat. All ASG meetings are open so that you can learn about the issues we face as students and call attention to items that are important to you. I encourage any student to come visit us if you have any concerns. Our offices are located on the fourth floor of the LBJ Student Center in Suite 4-5.1. Meetings are Mondays at 7 p.m. at the LBJ Student Center in the Teaching Theater.
Congratulations on becoming a Bobcat! Be sure to take advantage of your time here, attend class, make unforgettable memories, and always remember, We are Texas State!
Sincerely,
Albert J. DeGarmo
